Poetry of Stitch with Christine Chester

21 – 25 FEBRUARY 2022    £450 + materials fee ( £150 deposit payable on booking)

How many times have you said – I have lots of printed fabrics but don’t know what to do with them? This course will give you some answers. Teaching you to think differently when confronted with stitch; treating it as a layer, not just resorting to following the edges, or covering the lovely printed marks that are already on your fabrics.

We will look at the variables that affect how a stitched mark might look – weight/character/density – using both hand and machine. You don’t have to be expert in stitch as for the hand option you can stick to some basic stitches such as back stitch, stem stitch and chain stitch which I can teach you – and a stitch book can come in handy! For machine work I tend to think of everyone in the class as a complete beginner so will take you through what you need to know in order to work on your fabrics.

You will need some hand dyed/printed fabrics to work with, along with a sewing machine. The supplies list is not particularly extensive for this course and the studio will be providing some of the basic fabric for the hand stitch work. Full details will be sent out with the request for full balance payment.
