Textile Re-Treats

Treat yourself to a holiday in sunny Eastbourne and take one of our 3-5 day courses. Courses are organised on the page chronologically. Scroll down to find courses with exceptional artists and teachers. Next year’s highlights will include me teaching Poetry of Stitch, a workshop I developed as a response to students saying that they had lovely printed fabrics but didn’t know how to stitch them.

Like us on FaceBook to get immediate notification of new Re-Treats as they go live. Social Media link: FB Studio11 Eastbourne or Insta contact Christine via the Contact Page and join the mailing list.

These courses will be fun but intense learning experiences and you will leave with plenty of practical knowledge to take into your own textile work. The classes are limited to 8 students, and you will work with a bench buddy on the 2m benches, or with the hybrid courses there will only be 4 in the studio and 6 online. There is a buffet style lunch – highly recommended by students from previous Re-Treats! And if you are still not sure – read some of the feedback in the comments section at the bottom of the Home page

To book a place on any Re-Treat please pay the deposit via the Add to Cart button by the course you are interested in. If there is no button, that means the course is full but do e mail me to be added to the waiting list.

Generally the materials fee does not exceed £40, and is more often in the region of £25.

ACCOMMODATION

There are a couple of small B&B’s about 10 minutes away from the studio along the seafront.  Breakers and By The Sea are used by studio regulars and are reasonable and have great breakfasts! There is also a dog friendly B&B just a little further from the studio – Ebor Lodge

We also have a Premier Inn in the centre of Eastbourne about 5-10 minutes walk away .

Several students have stayed in Ravilious Hotel and thoroughly recommended it for its breakfasts, and its cleanliness. It is also only about 10-15 mins walk from the station but now it is about 25 mins from the studio. It does have quite a few stairs, so perhaps not suitable for anyone with knee problems. Another B&B close to the station but about 20-25 mins from studio venue, is The Manse, a stylish house with many arts & crafts original features and great breakfasts!

As this is a holiday town, there are also a wide range of hotels, AirBNB’s and B&B’s to suit every purse! Watch this space for more recommendations!

  1. I’ve just been on the Caroline Bartlett course and loved every minute of it. It was very well structured and thought out, full of fascinating information and little gems of helpful tips. She is a lovely tutor, warm and passionate about her work.
There was plenty of time for practical work though I personally am a slow worker….food for thought will be continued in my studio!
Studio 11 itself is a great place, so close to the station, which was excellent as I commuted every day, and very well equipped.
Christine provided delicious lunches, which were a real treat and it was lovely to have a small intimate class.
If you need a welcoming creative retreat and some “Me time”, this place is well worth a visit….!
Christine- had you thought of having Cas Holmes?

  2. I have just been on Debbie Lyddon’s Sculptural Cloth workshop and have had an inspiring and wonderful time, Studio 11 is a great space to work in, light and airy and very well equipped with plenty of room to spread out and work. This is the second re-treat workshop I have been on (the first with Alice Fox) and throughly enjoyed both times. I would definitely recommend coming down to Studio 11 Eastbourne, many thanks Christine.

  3. I recently spent two days at Christine’s studio studying on Caroline Bartletts retreat Heat Setting Geometric Forms. Caroline is an extremely knowledgeable tutor who introduced us to a variety of techniques yet enabled us to develop a personal approach. The studio is in a fantastic location, the lunches delicious and Christine’s attention to detail second to none, I would highly recommend studying here.

  4. Christine, thank you so much for such an interesting and informative workshop entitled Print-Embellish-Print. The three days passed far too quickly, but I now have more respect for my embellisher! When I enrolled I had no idea what we would be doing and an element of surprise is always welcome. This workshop has given me lots of inspiration to carry forward what I have started. Brenda

  5. Thank you Christine for a very informative and instructive 3 day workshop using our embellisher machines. As always your studio is well planned and the refreshment table is much appreciated. You obviously devote time to organising your workshops and monthly lessons.

  6. Having recently attended an Embellishing /print course delivered by Christine at her fabulous studio. I am now moving forward with skills and knowledge gained with a greater understanding of how to use my embelisher machine. Thank you Christine for your highly professional teaching.

  7. Hi, I have just completed a workshop at Studio11, led by Matthew Harris. An inspiring three days that was both challenging and rewarding. This was my first visit to Studio11 and I loved it. A well organised, well equipped, light and airy studio where everyone is friendly.
I have signed up for monthly creative development days from September. I too stayed at Ravillious Guesthouse, a 10 minute walk from the studio, excellent breakfasts with every comfort in the room.
All in all, a brilliant time!!
Thank you Christine and fellow students.

  8. I have just finished a 5 day course with Matthew Harris at Studio 11 and can’t praise the experience highly enough. Matthew’s teaching was exceptional and I left with lots of inspiration and ideas for the future. The studio is also a great place for such events, with all the facilities you could wish for.

Would definitely recommend a trip to Eastbourne for one of Christine’s classes or for a retreat.

  9. I have just completed the workshop with Matthew Harris at Studio 11, which was excellent. I see attending Matthew’s class as an investment of my time. What I learnt in 3 days on his course was equal to many month’s or even years of trying to work things out in my own way. He taught me to see things differently.
Thank you Christine for the opportunity to work with Matthew.

  10. I have just completed the workshops with Alice Fox at Studio 11 and had a wonderful time. The studio is a lovely light sunny well equipped room to work in and lunches were delicious! Great teaching and I came away full of inspiration for new projects.
I stayed at the Ravillious Guesthouse which was very comfortable and within easy walking distance of the studio.

    Thank you very much Christine.

  11. Just spent a wonderful week’s Re-Treat at Studio 11 with Lesley Morgan exploring colour and layering on fabric. Thoroughly absorbing and stimulating. Big thanks to Lesley and Christine.
