I am a practising and exhibiting textile artist who makes work focussing on memory, identity, loss and absence, using mixed media techniques to generate fractured imagery that expresses some of the confusion surrounding dementia.
I have also been teaching textiles for many years, and enjoy developing the design aspect of projects with students, as well as teaching the more practical stitching and colouring skills. I have delivered City & Guilds to Diploma (the old Part 2) level in both Embroidery and Patchwork & Quilting.
2015 saw me complete my Masters with Distinction, have a gallery at Festival of Quilts, join Quilt Art as their newest exhibiting member, and in 2016 I was part of the very successful unFOLD exhibition at the Knitting & Stitching Shows at Alexandra Palace and Harrogate International Centre. We repeated that experience with The Button Box exhibition at Festival of Quilts 2018.
In 2019 I successfully entered work into the Vlieseline Fine Arts Textile Award at FOQ, and had 2 works in the travelling Quilt Art exhibitions: ‘Material Evidence’ and ‘Traces’.
In 2020 I had to resign from Quilt Art as the travelling commitments had become problematic for me with a second business I am a partner in (screens4printing). The Covid pandemic and lockdown saw me presenting one of the Community Stitch challenges for TextileArtist.org online, to 18,000 members of the community. This was a very exciting opportunity which coincided with the development of my new online courses.
